Help me figure out the name of this movie?

Hello and thanks for looking, it seems like this movie may have been made in the early 90's. It was of a guy that went into this small town and robbed all the banks in the town, while some people caused a big disturbance outside of town which caused all the police officers to leave. So he robbed the banks while all the police officers were out of town. It seemed like he drove a red sports car, maybe a Trans Am or a Firebird? Also, it seems like the movie may have taken place out west in more of a desert setting, possibly near the mountains or something? Thanks for your help, its killing me to figure out the name of this movie
